INFORMATION FOR GRANT-SEEKERS

ARPGE serves as a conduit for funds to deserving, progressive Romanian non-profit organizations working to alleviate the nation’s gender inequality problems. ARPGE strives to improve the quality of life for women and girls through the work of our partner agencies in Romania.

ARPGE supports Romanian organizations that:
• Demonstrate a clear commitment to promoting human rights, gender equality, and an end to violence of all kinds, particularly against women and girls;
• Promote the leadership of women within their organization;
• Accept as members and regularly work with Romanians of all ethnic and religious backgrounds;
• Are registered with their local judiciary and the appropriate national ministry; and
• Have a proven track record of effectiveness and a viable financial management strategy.

Please note that ARPGE does not allocate funds to:
• Individuals;
• Organizations based and/or working outside Romania;
• Organizations whose primary or sole purpose is to benefit an individual or a small circle of individuals;
• Organizations whose staff and/or leadership have been convicted of a criminal offense or have had a civil judgment rendered against them.

ARPGE looks to fund proposals that are creative and unique, utilize Romanian materials and "man"power, have community support and clearly defined objectives, and demonstrate cooperation with other institutions.

Examples of funded projects include:
• Public education campaigns, workshops, and seminars on gender issues;
• Counseling and/or legal advocacy for victims of gender-related violence;
• Job training programs, particularly for those at risk of human trafficking;
• Printing and distributing literature on topics related to gender equality; and
• Operating costs for shelters or safe houses for the victims of domestic violence.

Furthermore, ARPGE gives priority in funding to organizations that:
• Do not rely solely on ARPGE for financial support;
• Have a trained accountant/financial manager that uses Western accounting methods;
• Use locally available products and raw materials; and
• Show community commitment and ability to cover recurring costs in continuing the activity into the future.

All organizations will be limited to a maximum $500 grant at the start. Organizations that prove their competence will have the opportunity to apply for larger sums of money in subsequent grant requests.

Please note that grants will be awarded based on the strength of the organization, veracity of the need, and originality of the approach. Grant requests should be coherent but do not need to be written in perfect English. If you have questions about the application or the grant-making process, please email Tadd Eakin, President of ARPGE, at info@equality-romania.org.
